I think I’ve found the right Winter Hair Routine for me and the secret lies within this gigantic bottle of Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Soap (peppermint).
For a background on this soap, click here. When using the liquid soap, I did not diluted it. I don’t know if that makes a difference, but I do take care not to let the suds get in my eyes. It will burn! I have had issues with the soap tangling my hair in the past, but after I rinse the “shampoo” I quickly apply Herbal Essences Hello Hydration and let it sit.
Go on and wash the rest of your body. Or read the Dr. Bronner’s soap bottle. There are some really crazy things written on it. Here’s a sample:
Whatever unites mankind is better than whatever divides us! Yet, if absolute-unselfish I am not for me, I am nothing but classless, raceless, starving masses, never free nor brave! Only if constructive-selfish I work hard perfecting first me, like Mark Spitz-arctic owls-penguin-pilot-cat-swallow-beaver, bee, can I teach the MORAL ABC'S ALL-ONE-GOD-FAITH, that lightning-like unites the Human race! For we're ALL-ONE OR NONE! ALL-ONE! "LISTEN CHILDREN ETERNAL FATHER ETERNALLY ONE!" EXCEPTIONS ETERNALLY? ABSOLUTE NONE!
What’s going on in that label?? Anyway, I’ve read only 1/16th of the text, I rinse my hair of the conditioner while combing with my wide-toothed comb. I comb and rinse until I feel enough conditioner is gone. I’ve noticed two things:
- My hair has defined curls after I get out of the shower.
- I have less hair shedding/breakage left in my comb
- I can still run my fingers through my afro as it dries. Which is kind of awesome!
Style or set your hair the way you want to. I quickly apply a mix of coconut oil and jojoba oil as a leave-in. Lastly, I do a two-strand twist with Eco Styler gel and let it dry over night. The results were pretty good! I think I’ll continue with this routine throughout the winter months. The oils in the soap, along with the conditioning and added leave in, should hopefully be enough to fight the cold brittle winds of Toledo, OH.
