Today I made my first fondant cake! I’ve been wanting to make a cake like this for awhile, but was very intimidated by the task. After studying and drooling over the vegan marshmallow fondant tutorial on Live.Learn.Love.Eat, I decided it was about time. I made this cake for my friend Leslie’s baby shower tomorrow. It is a two-layer chocolate cake with chocolate icing under the fondant (completely vegan). The fondant is comprised of two bags of vegan marshmallows (Dandies), vegetable shortening, and powdered sugar. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be to make, but it was challenging and frustrating at times. Getting the fondant on the cake is by far the most difficult part. I recommend buying the appropriate fondant making accessories before venturing into this. It was really fun and rewarding to make a cake like this though. Since they are a task, I’m only going to make them for my daughter’s birthdays and major celebrations. Below are a few pics of the process.
