We all fell prey to the Playboy Club hype. And for those of you who liked the show, I’m sorry to tell you that it has been pulled from the NBC lineup after just three episodes.
I’ll be honest with you, I watched half of the pilot and for some reason, wasn’t compelled to watch the rest. That doesn’t mean that all pilots are supposed to hook you. I love 30 Rock, but wasn’t a fan of its pilot at all.
I am disappointed that Bunny Brenda couldn’t take off. That would have been an awesome character. Not only is she out of work, but according to the Chicago Tribune, “99.5 percent of the people working on the show were Chicago workers.” That’s a blow to the production staff of Chi-town especially after Fox’s Chicago Code was not brought back for a second season. Bummer.
After talking to my friend Courtney about shows like Pan-Am and The Playboy Club, she came to the conclusion that a lot shows want to run with the success of Mad Men. People are a little nostalgic for that swing sixties era. I’m inclined to agree with her. But it does take good writing. So English majors out there, stay in school! When you graduate, work for television!
