Guest Feature: Autumn (aka Curly Chronicles)

Hey everyone! I am pleased to release our first guest feature!!! Autumn aka Curly Chronicles of Youtube and The Retro Natural was kind enough to do a guest feature for us. I have followed Autumn on youtube for a couple of years now and I have learned a lot about natural haircare from her. Enjoy!!!
~Evelyn

1) What does natural/organic living mean to you? How do you embody natural/organic living?
It means simply putting the knowledge you’ve attained over time to good use in various areas of your life. Whether it’s recycling, composting, using natural laundry detergent or skincare/hair care products or minimizing the amount of plastic/paper you use. It’s about an awareness of keeping things simple for yourself and for the world around you.

2) What challenges exist in a quest to living naturally? How do you tackle those challenges?
I think the biggest challenge is sticking to it. I’ve noticed times where I’ve been on a big recycling kick and then noticed I threw a toilet paper roll tube in the regular trash. Or I sleep in and miss the Saturday Farmer’s Market and go to a grocery store instead buying more plastic and packaging. Sometimes being super busy causes you to be less consistent in your natural living. You just gotta try a bit harder though and learn to be consistent in the opposite way.

3) How do you incorporate a natural/organic consciousness into things such as clothing, products, transportation, home care, etc.?

I buy second hand/vintage clothing because my chances of getting rid of them are minimal. Clothes I buy new from the mall or other boutiques tend to get donated often because they lose their character. So this helps me be more conscious in buying for the sake of buying, doesn’t happen often at all! We use one car now for my household which was by force (lol) but hey, it’s less gas and less pollution! I use natural cleaners, orange peels blended with tea tree oil for cleaning the sinks and tubes, plant derived detergent and dish liquids. It was a gradual thing though. ๐Ÿ™‚

4) What impact has a natural/organic lifestyle had on your life?
I don’t get rashes or reactions, I don’t get sick often, I trust what’s in my food and I think this all leads to more peaceful mindset.

5) What is your relationship to your hair? How do you feel about it? What does it mean to you?
Me and my hair are like two best friends who get together a few times each week to hang out, watch movies, experiment with different styles and then get all happy when we stumble on a style we both seem to love . I have a lot more fun with my hair. I understand it more now!

  1. Thanks for such a positive feature, Evelyn. Gave me some things to think about. How to move beyond looking mostly for organic hair + skin care; and taking that persistence into the realm of food and products for the home. I do try but I think I can do better in that regard.
    Nice to meet you, Autumn.

  2. I know I shouldn't be working on my vacation! ๐Ÿ™‚ I had to go ahead and do this post though because I have been anticipating it and when Autumn emailed it to me I had to put it up. She is a very sweet and gracious person. She gives me a lot to aspire to as well as far as living “naturally”.

  3. Awesome piece!! I wish there were more people of your generation out there. The one after you will need a LOT of help. Think I'll steer them your way if you don't mind….. ; ) Love you.

  4. Very cool. It's hard to stick to my environmentally sound practices. I'll definitely have to keep at it. Great piece on Autumn, she's so talented and always positive.
